Shi8ft Points in A/SA

Almost finsihed building my 396/375 69 Nova, has good heads and I did the short block. I plan on running A/SA and need some help to be compettive. My question is what stall converter should I buy and from what company, what rpm do you shift this combo at? Any help would be apprecitated. Did the addtional HP hurt this combo, sure it did not help.
