I dunno how many generations but, here's a link with some info about how they get them - and there's some really cute pics of some crested ducks too:

Ours are only about 6-7 weeks old now... still getting their feathers in and their waterproof coating. So, they're too young to let wander around the yard and I don't think we'll let these wander around too much... as our very first duck wandered around with Red (when he was younger) along with another rooster that we had (found a home for him because they started to cock fight and tried to kill each other) - and the duck thought she was a chicken, I guess. She'd act like them, feed with them, follow them, and the roosters even tried mating with her!!!
Well, one windy, stormy night came along and she was missing the following morning. But, our neighbors dogs were in our yard several times during that week too so, we don't know what happened to her. I took care of the neighbors dogs though, wrote them a letter asking them to please keep their dogs on their property - guess they've had some other neighbors complain about their dogs running around before, etc etc. I feel sorry for their larger dogs, they're ALWAYS in outside kennels, only the little dog is inside.
Anyway, both roosters were still around, even after the storm and neighbors dogs came around several times that week so, we were heartbroken about our duck missing, to say the least. We never could get her to really fly good enough, I think she was a bit too heavy. We found some eggs she'd laid after she disappeared, not fertile but, it broke our hearts anyway, when we found them... she had a makeshift nesting area in the shed.
Anyway, we have a huge kennel (aviary of sorts now - 13ft long by 7 1/2 ft wide by 6ft tall) of which we put them in during the days, with their own little pool to swim in too.
If anything, our neighbors have a small lake that they said we could let the ducks live around when they're older... so, that's an option too.
Anyway, good to hear that the chickies are still hanging out at your place - I'm sure they're enjoying getting some shade and getting out of the sunny heat! They might just take up residence at your place with that nice, shady oleander of yours.
I'll try to get some pics of the ducks in their little pool tomorrow... weather permitting, as I haven't watched the weather yet. lol
