Yeah, I'm sure we'll get another rooster but, only one... the rest will be laying hens. We kept one of the chicks that we hatched out but, we've been having to nurse it as it's lost the use of its legs. All the symptoms point to one of the congenital or genetic diseases (like tumors on the spine that cause paralysis), medication hasn't worked and I don't have a hard enough heart to put it out of its misery, nor have it put to sleep. It eats & drinks, poops and chirps, it just can't walk. So, unless it gets worse, we will continue to care for it and love it all the same.
We know now, not to get anymore fertile eggs from the farmers we got them from (their youngest daughter is friends with my youngest daughter) but, don't wanna take another chance at having another chick with the same condition. We'll just have to find some adult laying hens later on... and find a baby rooster to raise too.
Otherwise, we've been enjoying the 3 baby ducks, that are growing like weeds too. Yup, one daughter wants chickens, while the other wants ducks. I'll get picks of the duckies later on to share.
