I'm SO sorry to hear about Red! 
He truly looked like such a character in that picture where you caught him staring into the house thru the window...lol.
I think those hens belong to the neighbors who live a couple of houses down from me. They have a rooster who crows at all hours of the day and night...lol.
Somebody needs to buy him an alarm clock so he'll know what time it is...lol.
I envisioned him having a small "harem" of hens to occupy his time...and they get bored and come over to see what kind of insect pickings I have in my yard...lol.
I would LOVE to see them hanging out in my yard with a whole string of bitties running along behind their moms...LOL!
Do you think that y'all will get another rooster? I hear they make good "watch dogs" in addition to eating bugs and spiders.
