Been out today with Johnny and Mark to some pasture we have in the Vale Of Glamorgan. Not a bad day all told and at last the site is producing silver and Roman.
I found a damaged spectacle buckle first. Then a 1914 silver shilling at a rediculous depth - take a look at the photo - I kid you not it was 14inches plus. Followed by another silver shilling this time Victoria 1892 at about 5 inches - a first for me. Finally came a nice shoe buckle - uncertain of date.
A good day in the glorious Vale. Johnny and Mark had a smattering of buckles, coppers, a complete pewter 17thC spoon (Johnny) and he also had a Roman radiate - at least thats what we thought it was at first - now we're not sure - could be Celtic!
We had an amusing incident along 5 mile lane - near the Hawking Centre on the way home! I pulled in due to dropping Johnnys Roman (?) coin on the floor of the car. Whilst I was looking for it I became aware of being watched by 2 guys peering at us behind the bushes in the layby - a good 10 metres apart and parked seperately. Mark also spotted them and the recalled that the lane was a famous DOGGING lane. Say no more we did a fast exit!
Photos to follow! Noit of the doggers - I hasten to add!
